Being a truly international company, Franklin Fueling Systems (FFS) takes its people’s safety seriously wherever they are, be it on an installation site, in the office, or at home. To emphasize the importance of safety, FFS held a Global Safety Day in conjunction with its valued partner Shell on June 6, 2012 worldwide and due to the UK Queen’s Jubilee celebrations on June 13, 2012 in the United Kingdom.

We have already reported on this event in our post ‘Global Safety Day at FFS Headquarters’ on the Filling Station blog and now we are bringing you coverage from our European territories including the United Kingdom and the Netherlands where FFS staff met with contractors and partners either on an installation site or in a company office.

In general the event was focused on ‘Goal Zero’ covering overall safety for everyone in every situation and Forecourt Safety concentrating on petrol station safety, as well as personal safety. Shell’s Goal Zero safety initiative focused on striving for total safety, because being 99.9% safe is just not safe enough.

Shell representatives and operational staff from AJ Bayliss spent a Safety Day with Franklin staff at Ipswich, UK office. The day started with attendees sharing their personal risks and how these can be eliminated to achieve Goal Zero. The most important and useful part of the Safety Day was an in-depth discussion with contractors about processes and operations involved in site installations and how they can be simplified even further.

Emma FitzGerald a VP of Shell said: “Candid feedback from contractors is really valuable in ensuring that we reflect their experience and create practical solutions.”

In the Netherlands Franklin’s representatives participated in the Safety Day organized by a company called van der Velden Rioleringsbeheer located in Buren. Besides attendees from FFS, van der Velden Rioleringsbeheer and Shell there were also participants from Artelia, Ballast Nedam and Quint Nooren.

Peter van der Gaag, Franklin’s Regional Sales Director for Europe, said about the Safety Day: ‘We shared many interesting points and our open discussion with the engineers who are servicing and maintaining fuelling stations proved to be very useful.’

The Safety Day events were successful and highlighted how important safety is on a day to day basis, leaving a notable impression on many employees as well as all other participants.
