Model 1271:
|
INSTALLATION
The Model 1271 simply snaps into a standard DIN panel cut-out. This unit operates with a novel magnetostrictive
position sensor connected to the Model 1271. The position sensor consists of a stainless steel shaft with two
magnets that are free to move along the shaft. The Model 1271 measures their absolute position as the two
magnets move along the shaft. A number of different magnet configurations are available including floats.
Consult the factory for more information.
THEORY OF OPERATION
The Model 1271 is a precision instrument that measures position by timing the total propagation time from the
generation of a current pulse to receiving a reflected torsional wave on a magnetostrictive material. The
propagation time of the torsional wave depends on the position of a magnet that is placed around the
magnetostrictive material. Therefore, the propagation time is an accurate indication of the absolute position of the
magnets around the magnetostrictive material. The Model 1271 performs a digital signal processing algorithm that
converts the propagation time to a digital display and analog output corresponding to linear position of the
moving magnets.
OPERATION
The front panel keypad is used to select one of three scale factors, zero the display, and set the display to a
pre-determined value. The analog output can be programmed to provide an electrical output corresponding to
a particular range of linear motion. Refer to the Operating Manual for details on set-up and operation of the unit.
The Model 1271 was designed to replace linear potentiometers, LVDT’s, inductosyns, linear optical encoders,
and linear magnetic encoders where precise linear position monitoring is required. In particular, the Model 1271
provides the ability to measure two different positions on one axis, or the difference between two positions.
This product can be used for differential position monitoring in machine tool applications such as wood-working,
punchpress, and specialty machines; industrial measuring applications such as liquid-level and valve position;
and other critical linear position measurements that require precise and stable absolute position monitoring.
The unit can also be programmed to provide relay limit outputs at various positions. Additional outputs are
available through an interface port.
Several remote 1250B monitors may be driven from the same 1265 transmitter.
Use of semiconductor technology provides a price-to-performance ratio never before achieved in linear position monitoring systems.
Uses a rugged, absolute magnetostrictive transducer — does not require rezeroing or periodic recalibration. Display accuracy is better than 0.05 % of Full Scale. Intrinsically safe and waterproof transducers are available.
Simultaneously provides visual panel indication, proportional analog output, and digital interface.
All critical parameters can be programmed by the user including three different scale factors, analog output endpoints, and relay limits. All programmed data is stored during power failures.
Operates from self-contained power supply.
Has three programmable Scale Factors that can be programmed to measure magnet position 1, 2, or their difference.
