Upgrade Instruction 2003
Windows 2003/Windows 2003 R2
*** NOTE - SSA 1.6.21 will be the last version of SSA that supports Windows Server 2003 ***
When upgrading from a previous version of System Sentinel AnyWare installed on Windows 2003 follow these instructions.
Detailed Upgrade Instructions
STOP! Contact Technical Service if upgrading from a version lower than 1.6 to obtian a new registration file!
Stop all SSA services
Open the 'SSA Administrator' application.
Right click on 'My Computer' and select 'Manage'
Expand the tree titled 'SSA Administrator v1.6'
Go to the 'Services' section and stop each service.
Stop IIS
Open the IIS (Internet Information Services) manager.
Select the 'Restart IIS...' menu item.
Right click on the server and select 'All Tasks' and then 'Restart IIS'.
Select 'Stop Internet Services' for the server and click 'OK'.
Delete all web sites
Open the 'SSA Administrator' application. (see Step 2, if needed)
Double-click the 'web' tab
Record the database connection name associated with each website
Delete all websites
Close the SSA Administrator application
Any MMC (Microsoft Management Console) that includes SSA Administrator snap-in must be closed, including the Computer Management window.
Uninstall SSA
Go to the Windows Control Panel 'Add/Remove Programs' applet.
Select the 'System Sentinel AnyWare' program and remove it.
Install the new version of SSA
Load the installation program for the new version of SSA onto the server
Click on the application and follow the instructions
Backup all databases
Open SQL Server Enterprise Manager and backup each database.
Upgrade all databases
Open the 'SSA Administrator' application. (see Step 2, if needed)
Go to the 'Database Connections' section.
Right click on each database connection.
Select the 'Test/Upgrade...' menu item.
Click 'Yes' when prompted to check database version and upgrade.
If upgrading from a version prior to 1.6.19
Re-run step 2.3 'Enable the SSA-specific Web Service Extension' from the Installation Procedure.
Download and run the latest version of the Basic MiKTeX 32-bit Installer and then follow the instructions listed for the 64-bit version here.
Start IIS
Open the IIS (Internet Information Services) manager.
Select the 'Restart IIS...' menu item.
Right click on the server and select 'All Tasks' and then selected 'Restart IIS...'
Select 'Start Internet Services' for the server and click 'OK'
Recreate all web sites
Open the 'SSA Administrator' application.
Go to the 'Web' section.
Right click in the 'Web' icon and select the 'New web site ...' menu item. NOTE: At least one web site must created.
Reassign the database connection.
Repeat for all web sites.
Security Settings
Application Pool
Open the IIS (Internet Information Services) Manager and select Application Pools.
Right click on the 'DefaultAppPool' and select the 'Properties' menu item.
Under the 'Identity' tab, change the 'Predefined' user from 'Network Service' to 'Local System'.
Cmd.exe Access
Open your file explorer to 'C:\Windows\System32'.
Find and right click on Cmd.exe.
Under the 'Security' tab click 'Add...'
In the dialog that follows click 'Advanced' in the lower left corner to expand the options of the dialog and then on the right side click the 'Find Now' button.
Scroll in the 'Search Results' until you find 'IUSR_[Computer Name]' with Computer Name being name of your machine.
Click 'OK' and then 'OK' again.
Back in the security tab, 'Allow' the newly added user to 'Read & Execute'.
Start SSA services
Open the 'SSA Administrator' application.
Go to the 'Services' section and start each service.
