Getting Started

Overview

SSA is an Internet Browser based version of our single user application System Sentinel. All applicable features found in System Sentinel will also be found in SSA. If you are familiar with System Sentinel, the capabilities found in SSA will become familiar as you log into the system and begin adding groups and sites to your system.

The overall look and feel of the interface gives you the impression that you have logged into an application. This in some respects is true. You are using a browser (a windows application) to view your site data maintained in a SQL Server database. The difference here is that your browser session may be one of many users logged in, viewing and working with specific data required for them to do their job. This is a major advantage over a traditional single user application in that SSA can, at your discretion, be configured to distribute data as needed to those who need to make business decisions based on this data.

In addition to the browser based interface, SSA is also equipped with what we refer to as Exception Management Processing. This capability is configurable via a set of user defined rules. A rule is created to watch for a user specified event and when the event occurs a user specified action takes place. Currently SSA will be able to route the event to an E-Mail receipient. This could be a PC based E-Mail system, a text based messaging Pager, Cell Phone or PDA.

For example, you could create an exception management rule to watch for a low inventory alarm event at your sites. When this alarm (an event) occurs, you specify that this alarm be sent (an action) to your fuel hauling service. When they receive this SSA Exception Management Communication, they will schedule the site for immediate delivery. Once appropriate rules are set up, SSA takes over and routes the events to the appropriate personnel who can then take action to resolve the problem. Your site monitoring activity is then essentially automatic at this point and you need only respond to events when they occur.

Initial Login

Your initial login session will be under the Administrator account. You will need to create user accounts for users for others who will be logging into the system. These accounts may have Administrator rights enabled which will afford them full access to the product or may have only have specific user privileges which will disable access to certain parts of the interface.

Generally speaking, you will most likely want to limit the number of Administrators of the system to those responsible for adding sites and maintaining the overall operation of the product. The overall operation consists of configuring the system, managing sites, gathering site data and performing exception management processing.

The other users will have varying levels of interface rights, depending on their specific job function. For example, if you wanted your fuel hauler to see have access to your site data you would enable this user to only see Inventory data and perhaps enable the Poll on Demand feature. This user, would then be able to see the last polled inventory levels. If the last polled inventory levels were not current enough for them, they could then poll the site and update the information and then make a more informed decision on how much fuel to deliver to the site.

ATG Site Setup

Our standalone windows based application performed all business data processing and also site setup operations.  We have partitioned these functions into two separate applications.  SSA manages all business data processing and provides multi-user access to this data.  SSA does not perform ATG Site Setup activities.  You will need to use the standalone Tech Sentinel or System Sentinel products for this. Click here to obtain a copy of the System Sentinel program.

This differentiation allows site personnel more knowledgeable of and certified on the actual ATG hardware to manage this site configuration as may be needed to keep the site configured properly and performing as required.  This partitioning also affords more security to your business data.

Next Steps

SSA should now be up and running.  Refer to the online help for more information as may be needed to begin:

  • Adding Sites
  • Adding Groups
  • Creating Rules
  • Creating Polling Sets (needed for Modem Based Sites)
  • Managing Site Integrity
  • Managing Fuel Inventories
  • Maintaining Site Compliance
